Zwölferhornbahn to run on solar power in future

The cable car to the Zwölferhorn, the local mountain of St. Gilgen in Austria’s Flachgau region, is to be operated primarily with solar power in future. A solar system with an output of 804 kilowatts will be installed on the southern slope of the mountain station (see rendering), reports the portal Seilbahn.net. This is supplemented by a battery storage system with a storage capacity of 550 kilowatt hours (kWh). In the peak season from April to September, the cable car can be operated entirely with solar power; the annual average share of solar power reaches 90 percent. The solar power not required in the summer months is fed into the public grid.

The project is being implemented by the companies Synecotec, a member of the Elevion Group with more than 20 years of experience in the fields of renewable energies and energy efficiency, and the specialist civil engineering company HTB. The investment costs amount to 2.1 million euros. The nature conservation issues are being handled by Klenkhart und Partner.
