Wirsol receives approval for »fully controllable« PV storage power plant in Australia

Australian renewable energy project developer Wirsol Energy Pty Limited, part of the German Wircon Group, has completed another step for its »Maryvale Solar and Energy Storage« project with development approval from New South Wales state authorities. Wirsol acquired the project rights last December from Photon Energy Pty Ltd. and Polpo Investments Ltd. and has further developed the concept.
The plant near the small town of Dubbo is now expected to couple 235 megawatts of PV power with a battery storage system coupled on the direct current (DC) side with a capacity of up to 270 megawatt hours. The connected load is estimated at approximately 175 megawatts. The design of the solar-storage combination is intended to make the plant’s power output »fully controllable« in order keep it dispatchable for the energy market. Construction is scheduled to begin late next year, with completion in early 2025.
