Voltfang presents storage system based on used e-car batteries

Voltfang GmbH of Aachen, Germany, which has been nominated for this year's EES Award at the Electric Energy Storage trade show in Munich (part of »The Smarter E«), is exhibiting its »Voltfang Industrial« storage system at the show. The company claims this is the first commercialized storage system at battery module level that uses only second-life lithium-ion batteries from electric vehicles. In this respect, however, the system competes to some extent with the container storage system from Fenecon GmbH (we reported), which is also being presented in Munich and has also been nominated for an award there – albeit for »The smarter E Award« in the »Outstanding Projects« category.
Battery modules of different types, sizes and voltages can be used for the Voltfang Industrial system, and their condition is checked beforehand in a specially developed test process. The battery management system (BMS) controls the modules individually with their respective different operating characteristics. At the end of April, Voltfang already received the »Green Alley Award 2022«, which was created for start-up companies in the circular economy.
