Indian module manufacturer and EPC company Vikram Solar Ltd has bagged the project order for a 1 MW floating photovoltaic (FPV) plant for Hindustan Zinc Limited. The plant will be located at Ghosunda Dam, Near Chittorgarh, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. This would be Vikram Solar’s second floating solar project after the company installed its first floating solar plant in 2015 (located in Kolkata, West Bengal).
This project would be one of the first MW-scale floating projects in India for the Indian private sector. The floating plant will contribute to saving water evaporation loss, thus resulting in conservation of water, reduce the development of algae, maintaining cleanliness of the water, and will obviously save land space.
The installation will use Vikram Solar’s 330 Wp 72-cell Eldora polycrystalline modules. It is expected to be commissioned by July 2019 and will have an energy yield of 1,993 MWh per year.
According to the company, Vikram Solar’s EPC portfolio is comprising over 950 MW, including commissioned and under execution, rooftop and ground-mounted projects. The company has recently concluded a 130 MW PV plant for NTPC at Bhadla (Rajasthan), 80 MW for GIPCL at Charanka (Gujarat), 40 MW for IL&FS at Kachaliya (Madhya Pradesh).
