VDE certifies balcony power plants

The German VDE Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies now offers certification for plug-in solar power systems (balcony power plants). The basis is a test specification developed by the VDE »in accordance with the current legal basis and the applicable regulations and standards.« The certification covers the entire system consisting of solar module(s), cables and connectors, inverter, grid connection and mounting system.
The association responds with the test offer directed at manufacturers and dealers also »to numerous reports in recent weeks on safety deficiencies.« However, the test specification is not to be equated with a product standard. VDE’s standards organization DKE has such a standard in work for »the complete balcony power plant product«. Results are expected »before the end of this year.«
