US government to allocate $4 billion in loan guarantees for innovative renewable energy technologies

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a draft loan guarantee solicitation for renewable energy technologies that are currently unable to obtain full commercial financing. If approved, the solicitation would provide loan guarantees in amount of $4 billion for the support of clean energy technologies that are on the edge of commercial-scale deployment and that, however, are » catalytic, replicable, and market ready.« The DOE has identified the following technology areas for the solicitation: advanced grid integration and storage; drop-in biofuels; waste-to-energy; enhancement of existing facilities; and efficiency improvements.
