US Department of Energy launches »EcoCar« research competition

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), in cooperation with automotive company General Motors (GM) and software company MathWorks, Inc., has selected 15 of the country’s universities as participants in the »EcoCar EV Challenge« research competition. In the four-year project, student teams, each of which will be provided with a Cadillac LYRIQ electric car by GM, will develop and demonstrate electric mobility technologies. In addition to improvements to the propulsion system or technologies for semi-autonomous driving, the focus is explicitly on the connectivity of the vehicle battery with other loads and on stabilizing power grids.
The competition is part of the series of »Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions« (AVTCs) held by the DOE since 1988 to develop ideas for vehicle construction, particularly in terms of energy.
