Trina Solar to build 5 GW module factory in Texas

Chinese solar group Trina Solar Co, Ltd. announced a solar module factory in Wilmer in the U.S. state of Texas. The company plans to set up a production facility with 1,500 employees and an annual capacity of five gigawatts of module output on a floor area of around 1 million square foot. Commissioning is scheduled for as early as next year, and the investment for the plant is estimated at $200 million.
Trina wants to manufacture modules of its »Vertex« series in Texas on the basis of wafers with an edge length of 210 millimeters. The silicon required for the wafers will be sourced from the U.S. and Europe. Steven Zhu, CEO of Trina Solar US, also said in a statement that the company will »announce additional investments in American communities soon.«
