Transphorm launches 3 kW inverter board with GaN transistors

California-based Transphorm Inc. has launched a new development board for 3 kW inverters using gallium nitride (GaN) transistors. Transphorm designs and manufactures GaN semiconductors for high-voltage power converters and offers the platform as application support for its customers to enable them to develop high-voltage power systems such as electric car chargers, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and solar inverters. The 3 kW inverter board is now the company’s third design tool for GaN power conversion solutions.
The platform, with the type designation TDINV3000W050B-KIT, is a non-isolated 3.0-kW DC/AC full-bridge inverter evaluation board. It connects Transphorm’s TP65H050G4WS SuperGaN FET to Microchip’s dsPIC33CK digital signal controller (DSC), which includes pre-programmed firmware that can be customized to meet end-application requirements.
