Total Eren and Chariot review 10-gigawatt hydrogen project in Mauritania

Renewable energy project developer Total Eren, part of French energy group Total Energies, is joining forces with Chariot Transitional Energy, a U.K.-based company specializing in gas and electricity projects in Africa, to explore opportunities for wind and solar powered hydrogen production in Mauritania. The two companies each hold a 50 percent stake in a consortium for the »Nour Project.« The project partners state a potential of ten gigawatts of electrolysis capacity, without giving details of the planned generation capacity; depending on the composition, this is likely to be one-and-a-half to two times higher. If realized, the wind and solar power plants will also supply base load for the national power grid.
