Tesla receives patent for laser cleaning of glass surfaces on cars and PV systems

The U.S. Patent Office has granted U.S. automaker Tesla a patent for laser cleaning of glass surfaces. Title: » Pulsed laser cleaning of debris accumulated on glass articles in vehicles and photovoltaic assemblies«. According to the report, the cleaning system includes several parts: dirt detection on a glass article, optical equipment that emits a laser beam to irradiate an area on a glass article, and a control circuit. The control circuit calibrates a set of parameters associated with the laser beam emitted by the optical unit. The laser beam strikes the contaminant to remove it.
The patent could presumably be used not only to keep glasses clean - such as cameras for autonomous driving -, but also to clean other glass surfaces such as solar panels, which are planned in concept studies for the Tesla cyber truck.
