Swiss company G-neration Energy AG has acquired Kromatix Glass Tech SA, also based in Switzerland, thereby gaining access to trademark rights, technology, and patents for the manufacture of colored solar glass. The technology, developed at EPFL Lausanne, does not require color pigments, coatings, or printing processes. Instead, the glass is colored using nanotechnological coatings and atomic deposition. G-neration specifies the average light transmittance as 82 to 89 percent, depending on the color. The new owner is pursuing a different strategy with Kromatix Glass Tech SA than the former Kromatix SA. While Kromatix SA itself produced colored solar modules, G-neration Energy AG intends to focus on the manufacture and sale of colored solar glass.

G-neration Energy will start production of colored solar glass in August 2025 with a capacity of up to 400 square meters of single-pane safety glass and 500 square meters of tempered glass per week. The glass is available in ten colors as raw sheets in 3.21 × 6.00 meter format or as pre-cut, shaped, and tempered glass. Delivery is scheduled to begin in September. Where delivery is not feasible or realistic due to long distances or other reasons, foreign glass manufacturers will be recruited as licensees to produce Kromatix solar glass and sell it to module manufacturers. Several module manufacturers in Europe are already using Kromatix’s colored solar glass. In Switzerland, they are processed into solar modules and sold by 3S Swiss Solar Solutions AG.

The former manufacturer, Kromatix AG, based in Romont, Fribourg, ceased operations in 2024 and has since been in liquidation. The brand, technology, and patents were transferred to Kromatix Glass Tech SA.

G-generation Energy AG is a holding company owned by Swiss investors. It provides services in the field of renewable energies and exploits intangible assets. It was founded in 2018 by Patrick Hofer-Noser, the founder and main shareholder of 3S Swiss Solar Solutions AG, and other entrepreneurs.
