»Sunswift 7« to set 1,000-kilometer world record for solar cars

The »Sunswift Racing« team from Australia’s University of New South Wales (UNSW) has officially unveiled its new »Sunswift 7« solar car and simultaneously announced a world record attempt: In December, the aerodynamically optimized car, which weighs only 500 kilograms, is to drive a distance of 1,000 kilometers on just one battery charge at an average speed of at least 120 kilometers per hour, thus earning an entry in the »Guinness World Record« book.
The team of around 50 students originally started work on the solar car primarily for the »World Solar Challenge«, in which all six previous models built since 1996 also took part. However, the race had to be canceled in 2021 due to the Corona pandemic and will now take place again only in October 2023.
