Study on solar power potential in Russia

In Russia, it is currently economically most interesting to replace diesel generators with solar power systems and reduce diesel consumption accordingly. This includes agriculture and tourism, in particular for companies that are not connected to the public power grid, or for hotels that have a particularly high demand for electricity in summer due to the air conditioning systems. This is the result of a study on the framework conditions and the potential of solar power generation in Russia carried out by the Berlin consulting firm Eclareon together with the German Solar Industry Association (BSW) and the Russian section of Eurosolar.
The study analyzed the two Russian regions Krasnodar and Kaliningrad. Focus was on the potential of medium-sized solar parks, photovoltaic diesel hybrid systems and small roof systems. So far, however, photovoltaics have only played a minor role in Russia. According to Eclareon, the study shows »how this could change in the coming years and what challenges have to be overcome in the process.« Due to its geographical location, Krasnodar in the south of the country offers much better conditions than the north-western enclave of Kaliningrad.
