The Schletter Group, a mounting system manufacturer from Kirchdorf in Bavaria, has realized one of the largest coastal solar plants in South Korea. The project is located on drained coastal land in a bird sanctuary. The client was the Korean energy company SK E&S. Hanwha Solutions was responsible for construction and implementation as the EPC service provider.
The solar park covers an area of around 990,000 square meters of saltwater fill near Dangjin on the west coast of South Korea. It is located in a designated bird sanctuary where tens of thousands of migratory birds spend the winter every year. To protect this sensitive habitat, an officially ordered construction freeze was in place during the main migration period from December to February, which had to be taken into account in the planning. Outside of this period, the installation work was carried out as carefully and quickly as possible to minimize the impact on the wildlife, according to Schletter. For example, the posts were driven using low-noise construction methods wherever possible. The Schletter FS Duo SRF6 system was used as the installation system in combination with the ETA2 and LC90 pile foundations. It was developed for coastal regions with their special structural and corrosive requirements.
Despite these restrictions, Schletter says that the installation system was fully installed exactly on schedule and with only three and a half months of active construction time between November 2024 and May 2025. The continuous presence of migratory birds during and after the construction period proves the success of the protective measures taken.
