Sono Motors closes financing round of €45 million

Sono Motors, developer of the Sion solar electric car, has raised a further €45 million ($54 million). The company's funding round was led by a number of institutional investors, including Swedbank Robur and DNCA.
Earlier in 2020, the company had raised €53 million in a crowdfunding campaign, bringing Sono Motors' total equity, debt and paid reservations to around €100 million.
The Sion is expected to be the first mass-produced solar electric car. The company has already taken more than 12,600 pre-orders. The start-up plans to present the new prototype generation at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The electronics industry trade fair takes place digitally from 11 to 14 January.
