Sonnen starts shipping of solar batteries for New Zealand

Battery manufacturer Sonnen Australia Pty Limited, part of German Sonnen GmbH, announced that Sonnen batteries produced in the former Holden factory in South Australia will be shipped to New Zealand. Since taking over the premise of the former Holden factory at Elizabeth, Sonnen has commenced production of batteries that are designed in Germany and made in Australia. The energy storage systems are exclusively available through Taspac Energy. According to the company, Sonnen and Taspac Energy will run a series of training programs across New Zealand to provide installers with the technical knowledge they need.
Sonnen GmbH has begun production of home battery storage systems at its factory in Adelaide in late 2018. The company aims to produce more than 50,000 storage systems over the next five years at the former GM Holden factory in the northern suburbs of the South Australian capital.
Taspac Energy, part of the Helios Power Solutions Group of companies, is a New Zealand privately owned solar energy distribution company providing renewable energy solutions into New Zealand and the South Pacific.
According to the Sustainable Energy Association New Zealand (SEANZ), 30 percent of New Zealand households with a solar system have battery storage. This is increased from 24 percent in 2017 and 16 percent in 2016.
