Soltec offers better protection against hail damage

The Spanish manufacturer of tracking systems and solar project developer Soltec has published a white paper on the subject of hail damage to solar modules. Soltec's research results show that the highest risk exists when hailstones hit the front glass of the module directly and vertically. Soltec has therefore developed an algorithm for its tracking systems that turns the modules away from the critical angle in the event of hail. Hail detection sensors ensure a rapid response to approaching hailstorms. According to the report, this real-time detection in conjunction with a rapid adjustment of the position of the solar tracker minimizes the risk to the modules from hailstorms.
