Solarwatt double glass modules receive »Cradle to Cradle« certificate

Dresden, Germany-based Solarwatt GmbH has received silver »Cradle to Cradle« (C2C) certification for its »Vision« series of glass-glass solar modules. The seal is awarded by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute in San Francisco for products manufactured and distributed in the spirit of a circular economy. Solarwatt is only the third module manufacturer worldwide to receive this certificate.
The C2C certificate is available in five levels: basic, bronze, silver, gold and platinum, with the lowest of five assessment categories determining the overall result. Solarwatt received a Silver rating in the »Material Health« and »Material Reutilization« categories. »Renewable Energy & Carbon Management« was rated gold, »Water Stewardship« was rated silver, and »Social Fairness« was again rated gold.
US module manufacturer Sunpower received a C2C certificate already in 2014. This was transferred to the Sunpower spin-off Maxeon in 2019 and applies in bronze for its E, X and A series (category ratings: bronze/gold/silver/gold/silver). In 2020, the glass-glass modules from Lithuanian manufacturer SoliTek narrowly missed out on a gold certificate (ratings: silver/gold/gold/platinum/gold).
