Solarwatt and BMW to develop new battery storage »Battery flex«

German Solarwatt GmbH and the BMW Group have developed a battery storage system called »Battery flex«. BMW is supplying components that are also used in the Group's current electric vehicles. The home storage system is modular in design. According to the company, its capacity can be scaled flexibly from 4.8 kilowatt hours up to a size of more than 240 kilowatt hours. It can be integrated into the direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) circuits, making it suitable for retrofitting into any existing system. The individual components weigh no more than 25 kilograms. This means that the storage system »can also be installed by a single person«.
An energy management system called »Manager flex« controls and optimizes the energy flows and ensures that as much solar power as possible is consumed in the household. The software also handles the intelligent charging of an electric vehicle. The new storage system will be available from installers from fall 2021.
