Solar power to supply desalination plant in Oman

Water, waste management and energy group Veolia SA and energy group Total Energies SE have agreed to build a 17-megawatt solar power plant to supply electricity to the Sharqiyah desalination plant in Oman. According to the two French companies, this is the first supply solution of its kind in the region. The annual electricity output of the plant, designed with single-axis east-west tracking, is estimated at around 30 gigawatt hours per year, or 1,765 kWh/kW. The two companies did not provide details on the cost, contractors for the project, or commissioning date. Sharqiyah Desalination Company is a joint venture between Veolia and Oman's National Power and Water Company (NPW).
