Solar power plant for Unilever tea factory in Kenya

Unilever Tea Kenya, part of the Unilever consumer goods group, has commissioned a 619-kW ground-mounted PV system for its Kericho tea factory. Combined with the existing use of hydropower and biomass, Unilever Tea Kenya now meets 90 percent of its energy needs with renewables. The entire group has set itself the target of a completely renewable energy supply by 2030.
Crossboundary, a company specializing in solar power plants in Africa, was responsible for planning and installing the plant. Crossboundary also operates the plant and sells the electricity to the tea factory under a 15-year power purchase agreement.
