SMA supplies system technology for 50-MW power plant in Vietnam

SMA Solar Technology AG has supplied seven »Medium Voltage Power Station 6000« (MVPS) turnkey containers for the 50-MW solar power plant »GELEX-Ninh-Thuan«. With this order, the German company has now supplied PV system technology with a total inverter output of more than 500 MW to Vietnam.
The plant is operated by Gelex Energy One Member Limited Company (via its subsidiary Gelex Ninh Thuan Energy One Member Limited Company), which in turn belongs to the Vietnam Electrical Equipment Joint Stock Corporation. Ninh-Thuan Province offers good conditions for renewable energy due to its sunny climate and lower frequency of storms compared to other parts of Vietnam. According to SMA, 15 wind farms with a total capacity of almost 800 MW and 27 solar power plants with a total capacity of around 1.8 GW have already been connected to the grid.
The GELEX-Ninh-Thuan project falls under the feed-in tariffs valid until July 1. and, according to SMA, thus receives the equivalent of around 10 cents per kilowatt hour. The revised tariffs are significantly lower and provide for a graduated tariff of around 6.7 to 10.9 cents, depending on regional conditions and the type of plant; the lowest tariff level would apply to ground-mounted plants in Ninh-Thuan.
