SMA sold fewer inverters in Q1-Q3 2022 with nearly the same revenue

German inverter manufacturer SMA Solar Technology AG sold inverters with a total capacity of around 8.7 gigawatts in the first nine months of this year, significantly less than the 10.3 GW sold in the same period last year. Revenue, however, fell significantly less to € 724.1 million ($ 729.4; Q1-Q3 2021: € 744.9 million). SMA justifies the decline with project postponements in the »Large Scale & Project Solutions« segment.
Operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) from January to September 2022 amounted to € 50.2 million, corresponding to an EBITDA margin of 6.9 percent (Q1-Q3 2021: € 52.9 million; 7.1 percent). Net profit decreased to € 11.0 million (Q1-Q3 2021: € 15.3 million). Earnings per share were thus € 0.32 (Q1-Q3 2021: € 0.44).
The SMA Managing Board confirmed the sales and earnings forecast for fiscal year 2022, which was increased on October 27, 2022, and provides for sales of € 975 million to € 1,050 million (previously: € 900 million to € 1,050 million) and EBITDA of € 60 million to € 75 million (previously: € 10 million to € 60 million).
