SMA expands electronics production in Niestetal

German inverter and system technology provider SMA Solar Technology AG plans to invest around twelve million euros ($12.9 million) in expanding circuit board production at the company’s headquarters in Niestetal/Kassel by the end of 2024. The circuit boards for the new generation of SMA solar and battery inverters are equipped with significantly more components and electronic chips, SMA announced. Nevertheless, the devices would be more compact and more powerful due to their design. Fifty new jobs are to be created.
In addition to the expansion of electronics production, the company is also currently investing in a new production hall. In the »SMA Gigawatt Factory,« which will increase production capacity from 21 to 40 gigawatts, systems for large solar and storage systems are to be manufactured from 2025. The topping-out ceremony has just been held for the shell of the building on the approximately 46,000 square meter site.
