Jürgen Reinert, CEO of the inverter manufacturer SMA Solar Technology AG, has warned against the use of Chinese inverters in an interview with the business magazine Capital. A summary of the interview was published by the news agency dts. “The larger suppliers in particular, such as Huawei, have installed so many devices that they could switch them off simultaneously at the push of a button if they wanted to,” Reinert told the magazine. “Even on days when only 50 or 60 percent of the electricity comes from photovoltaics, it is technically possible that a shutdown by the manufacturer could cause the entire grid to go into imbalance.” Reinert believes that manufacturers’ ability to access devices connected to the internet is a serious scenario. “Then the frequency gets out of hand and the entire distribution network is shut down,” he said. “The danger is real.”
