Shell agrees PPA for 600 MW Witznitz solar power plant

The energy group Shell has agreed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Hansainvest Real Assets, a subsidiary of the insurance company Signal Iduna, for the »Energiepark Witznitz« solar power plant planned with a total of 600 megawatts (MW), one of the largest projects of its kind in Europe. Within this framework, Shell has also agreed to sell 323 MW from the PPA to the IT group Microsoft.
The project developer Move On Energy wants to bring the plant, which is currently still under construction – according to its own information even with 650 MW – on a former open-cast coal mine near Leipzig, Germany to the grid by the end of the year (our picture shows a rendering of the project first presented in 2021).
