Sharp to implement solar projects in Ethiopia with funding from Japanese government

Sharp Energy Solutions Europe, part of the Japanese technology group Sharp, wants to expand its PV project business to Ethiopia, offering investors financing through the Japanese government’s Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). Under this, greenhouse gas reduction projects are currently funded in 17 countries, according to Sharp, and the carbon reductions achieved are partially credited to Japan.
Sharp has already implemented projects in Mexico, Thailand, Mongolia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos and Palau under the JCM program. Others in Vietnam and Chile are »in progress«. In Ethiopia, the program could subsidize about 40 percent of the solar modules needed for a PV project.
