Sembcorp awarded contract for 500-MW solar power plant in Oman

Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries Ltd. has announced the construction of a 500-megawatt solar farm in the Sultanate of Oman. The project, which was put out to tender last year by local power and water utility Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP), was awarded to a joint venture between wholly owned subsidiary Sembcorp Utilities and China’s Jinko Power Technology; Sembcorp holds an 80 percent stake in the joint venture. The Manah Solar II Independent Power Project plant is expected to be operational by 2025. Power will be sold to OPWP over a 20-year period. Financing is to be provided through internal cash and a bank loan.
