Schmid launches new solution for bifacial cells

German PV equipment maker Schmid Group announced it is now offering a solution for the production of bifacial solar cells. According to the company, the new production equipment, named Geminus, is based on a lean process and can perform the doping process »very inexpensively.« The company said that the bifacial monocrystalline solar cells produced at its technology center achieve efficiencies of 19.5% on the front side and 17.5% on the back side. »With an optimal alignment of a bifacial cell system, the achievable increase of energy yield corresponds to an efficiency gain of 3.5%. Thus bifacial cells can generate an equivalent performance as the much more expensive high performance cells,« the company said.
