Scatec agrees PPA for 50 MW in Botswana

Norwegian renewable energy project developer Scatec SA has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 50 megawatts of solar power in Botswana. The contracting party for the 25-year agreement is the state-owned utility Botswana Power Corporation (BPC). Scatec will design, build and operate the plant in the former mining town of Selibe Phikwe in the east of the country.
Botswana has rich coal reserves, and the country is aiming for only 15 percent renewable energy by 2030. By 2036, however, this is expected to rise relatively quickly to 50 percent.
