RWE signed PPA to supply solar power to VW

German RWE Supply & Trading GmbH plans to purchase electricity from a solar farm in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern from 2022 onwards, supplying the Volkswagen Group under a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The plant is scheduled for completion at the end of 2021. Annual output is forecast at 170 gigawatt hours.
German investor Luxcara GmbH acquired the 172 MW project near Tramm-Göthen from Belectric Solar & Battery GmbH last year. According to an announcement in November, Belectric is contracted for both construction and operational management.
The solar farm is part of Luxcara's renewable energy portfolio, which spans more than three gigawatts across Europe. As part of the cooperation, RWE plans to sign additional long-term renewable power purchase agreements with VW. The utility already supplies major customers such as Deutsche Bahn and Bosch directly with green electricity via PPA.
