German energy group RWE AG has released details of its renewable energy portfolio along with its first quarter corporate figures. The company increased the generation capacity of its wind and solar power plants by seven gigawatts (GW) compared to the same quarter of the previous year, with 4.9 GW and a total investment of € 8 billion ($ 8.75 billion) attributable to the first quarter of 2023 alone – primarily because the acquisition of US-based ConEdison Clean Energy Businesses, Inc. for € 6.3 billion ($ 6.89 billion) fell into this period.
Worldwide, RWE has 6.8 GW of renewable energy projects under construction. PV accounts for 2.7 GW of this, mainly in the USA. In addition, there are 0.9 GW of battery storage power plants and 0.6 GW of onshore wind power. The company's largest individual projects under construction are currently the Sofia offshore wind farm with 1.4 GW off the British coast and Thor with 1 GW in Denmark.
