Revised standards for »good solar parks« in Germany

The German Federal Association for the New Energy Economy (Bundesverband Neue Energiewirtschaft, BNE) has revised its voluntary commitment »Good Planning of Ground-Mounted PV Plants« presented in the fall of 2020. The new version places greater emphasis on agricultural land. »For many farmers in particular, solar farms are becoming an important source of income that can be planned for the long term in times of drought and climate change,« a statement said. So far, however, projects have »hardly been classified in an agricultural context.«
According to the BNE, around 40 companies have joined the voluntary commitment so far. It sets standards for the intensity of land use, such as the distances between module rows, for measures to increase biodiversity, and also for the financial participation of site communities, which go beyond the existing legal obligations. Companies can sign the revised version of the voluntary commitment until the end of September.
