Chinese solar power project developer and operator Renesola Ltd. has changed its name to Emeren Group Ltd. effective Jan. 30. The company’s chief executive officer (CEO) remains Yumin Liu. Shares of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)-listed company are expected to begin trading Feb. 9 under the new name, but still under the symbol »SOL.« The company's headquarters are listed as Stamford in the U.S. state of Connecticut, while its headquarters in China are Shanghai. In addition, there are offices in nine European countries.
According to an Emeren release, the new name stands for "Empowering Renewables« and is intended to underscore the company's commitment to the global expansion of solar energy. In fact, a British renewable energy project developer had already been registered under the name Emeren Limited since November 2019, and Renesola entered into a partnership with it in July 2021 to jointly develop ground-mounted solar power plants in Italy. Emeren, with its then 22 employees and a project pipeline of 2.5 gigawatts, was acquired by Renesola in October 2022. The newly established Emeren Group Ltd. reports its project pipeline at around three gigawatts and the number of employees at 164.
