Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg has published a privately recorded video on its website showing a partially submerged floating PV plant on the Baltic Sea in Cottbus. The operator LEAG has confirmed the problems to PHOTON.

“The company has now realized that this is not an option and the approving authorities will have to do their homework,” Harald Groba (non-party), mayor of the municipality of Teichland, told RBB: “I would be delighted if they decided to dismantle the plant.” Dominique Guillou, head of LEAG Renewables GmbH, gave his opinion to the town’s economic committee. In his opinion, a storm event is primarily responsible for the damage to the plant. According to LEAG, “no more than six percent” of the area was damaged. LEAG rejects plans to dismantle the plant. In future, breakwaters are to protect the plant, according to the RBB report.

The 29 MW plant on the country’s largest post-mining lake to date went into operation in the winter of 2024/2025.
