PVA: »PV additions in Austria must be higher«

In 2020, new photovoltaic systems with a capacity of 341 MW were installed in Austria. According to the Federal Association Photovoltaic Austria (PVA), this is an increase of 38 percent compared to the previous year. Accordingly, the total installed solar capacity amounts to 2,035 MW.
However, the managing director of the association, Vera Immitzer, sees only »tender signs of a solar revolution«. The addition would have to be substantially higher, and starting from 2025 »annually three times, as many plants would have to be established as now«. In the following years, the expansion should be five times as high.
To achieve this, however, Austria needs »a reliable funding framework.« This should already have been available at the beginning of this year in the form of a Renewable Energy Expansion Act (EAG).
Due to the approaching end of the Green Electricity Act, the legal basis for the energy turnaround would soon be missing. »The National Council must pass the Renewable Energy Act before the summer,« the PVA managing director demands.
