PV covered 1.0% of electricity demand in France in 2013

PV covered 1.0% of France’s electricity demand in 2013, according to the annual report on French electricity production from French grid operator Réseau de Transport de l´Electricité (RTE). RTE, a subsidiary of the EDF Group, found that France’s installed PV capacity, including systems installed in Corsica, had reached 4,298 MW at the end of 2013. Of this total, 743 MW was installed in 2013. The amount of electricity produced by PV systems reached 4.6 TWh in 2013, up 16.2% year on year.
Although PV growth in France slowed in 2013, renewable energies’ share of the electricity mix continued to increase: renewables covered 20.7% of French electricity consumption last year. Electricity production from nuclear sources represented 73.3% of the total electricity production in France in 2013 (a decrease of 0.3 percent year on year).
