Public tender for renewable power plants in Iran oversubscribed by 80 GW

7 Megawatt solar power plant of Zanjan Province

Iran has announced the construction of renewable power power plants with a capacity of 10 GW. The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), which is part of the Ministry of Energy, called on companies to bid for the project in a tender last October. According to the online platform »Modern Diplomacy«, there are now 153 applications for 90,000 MW. According to SATBA, the plant capacity must be at least 10 MW for photovoltaics and at least 50 MW for wind farms. The government had allocated some $101 million for renewable energy promotion in the draft budget for the next calendar year (which begins March 21).
Details of the agreed collaborations with the selected companies were not provided. According to an Iranian government decree published last year, the output of photovoltaic systems with a size of less than 10 MW is remunerated at 8,918 Iranian rial ($0.212) per kilowatt-hour.
