Proteus Power and Pelion announce 3 GW portfolio in the U.S. and Canada

Proteus Power Developments LLC, a project developer and operator founded in October 2021 and headquartered in The Woodlands (Texas), has announced the implementation of a portfolio of solar, wind and battery storage projects with a total volume of more than three gigawatts in the USA and Canada. However, the now announced start of its »North American business operations« and the targeted project volume had already been communicated by Proteus in October.
The company is financially backed by the Munich, Germany-based renewable energy investor Pelion Green Future. Pelion’s founders are Jeremias Heinrich and »Rocket Internet« founder and venture capital investor Alexander Samwer. Proteus Power intends to focus on plants for which power purchase agreements (PPAs) are concluded with companies, covering the entire value chain from planning to operation.
According to the latest announcement, Proteus is currently »evaluating« 30 projects in Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and the Canadian province of Alberta. The company also said it has already begun developing three solar projects there totaling 234 megawatts (MW) in conjunction with 97 MW from battery storage. The Alberta I to III solar power plants are scheduled to go into operation between the end of 2023 and mid-2025.
