»Policy brief« on international standards for solar auctions

The Potsdam, Germany-based Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) has developed recommendations on quality standards for solar tenders in a »Policy Brief«. The background is the recommendation, repeatedly formulated by international experts, that policy makers »include international quality standards as technical requirements in the design of public auctions,« as the dossier’s introduction states. The IASS points to data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), according to which a high percentage of tender projects carried out in the past have serious deficiencies.
The dossier focuses on three areas in the recommendations it formulates: Defining technical requirements in line with national solar policy objectives, promoting the use of international quality standards, and monitoring compliance with these standards. The English-language document is available for free download.
