Official launch of the »EU Solar PV Industry Alliance«

With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, the European Solar PV Industry Alliance has officially started its work. The initiative is coordinated by EIT InnoEnergy, a division of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT), which is a body of the European Union. The two industry associations Solar Power Europe and European Solar Manufacturing Council are represented on the alliance's steering committee.
The initiative aims to create an annual production capacity of 30 gigawatts by 2025. »Third countries are giving massive support to develop their clean tech industries and attract ours,« said EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton at the signing ceremony, in an apparent allusion to the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act. The alliance’s plan of action presented, however, includes rather vague goals throughout, such as »identify manufacturing scale up bottlenecks and provide recommendations« or »supporting the solar PV research and innovation base.« Concrete goals or even the amount of any funding are not mentioned.
