New »PVHide« project with brick-red solar modules

As part of the »PVHide« research project, the Freiburg, Germany-based Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, module manufacturer AxSun Solar GmbH and Interpane Entwicklungs- und Beratungsgesellschaft mbH have implemented a new demonstration project in cooperation with the town of Eppingen. 224 solar modules were integrated into the red-tiled roof of a historic gymnasium, the cover glasses of which are provided with the »MorphoColor« coating for solar modules or solar thermal collectors developed by Fraunhofer ISE. Interpane’s contribution is the implementation of the process on industrial equipment, AxSun is responsible for the construction of the modules.
After a deliberately eye-catching installation with green »MorphoColor« modules was put into operation at the Fraunhofer ISE institute building last November, the gymnasium roof demonstrates »the other application case of disappearing as discreetly as possible into the building envelope,« says Harry Wirth, division manager for photovoltaic modules and power plants at Fraunhofer ISE.
