NEC commissions large-scale renewable energy storage system in Italy

Japanese provider of integration of IT and network technologies NEC Corporation has commissioned a large-scale renewable energy storage system installed on the grid of Enel Distribuzione, a subsidiary of the Italian largest utility Enel Spa. According to NEC, the system, which was connected to the Chiaravalle primary substation in the region of Calabria, has a storage capacity of 2 MWh. Enel Distribuzione will use the system to conduct a series of trials of a range of peak shaving, power balancing, power quality, voltage regulation and frequency regulation capabilities.
