Motech will lay-off more than 900 employees

Taiwan-based PV cell and module manufacturer Motech Industries Inc. will lay off approximately 916 employees due to optimize the manufacturing organizations. The plan will be completed on January 28, 2019. According to the company, over the past few months Motech has made organization alignments through integrating manpower allocations gradually »as a result of the new PV power policy unveiled by the Chinese government.« Besides the organization allocations, Motech will back to focus on high-efficiency solar cells and modules, as well as expend to the local solar system market proactively. The company »will be continuing to improve the competitiveness and reduce operating loss«. As part of this effort, »we have extended the core business to module and downstream system market and made a long-term and stable funding source in the long run.«
As reported, in September 2018 Motech announced plans to cut more than 300 contract jobs to reduce costs. Workforce reduction started when Motech shut down a solar wafer production line in June affecting 160 employees, »to stem losses, as market demand weakened when solar installations in China began to slow in June.«
