The Australian Clean Energy Regulator (CER) has announced a »Solar Panel Validation Initiative« following a one-year trial phase. Together with module manufacturers, a smartphone app was developed for this purpose. Ba scanning the serial number, the app can be used to immediately clarify whether a module is a genuine product and meets the criteria applicable in Australia.
CER executive general manager Mark Williamson explained that in the past »we found some solar panels were not meeting the requirements for Commonwealth incentives under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme«. The app makes it possible to check the modules of currently ten manufacturers, namely Canadian Solar, Hanwha Q Cells, Jinko Solar, LG Electronics, Opal Solar, ReneSola, Risen Energy, Trina Solar, Winaico and Yingli Solar. According to the CER, these manufacturers will supply more than half of the six million modules expected to be installed in roof-mounted systems in Australia this year.
