Modular monitoring system for up to 32 module strings from Weidmüller

With its modular »PV String Monitoring System«, German systems technology provider Weidmüller GmbH & Co KG offers the option of monitoring up to 32 module strings of a solar power plant. The unit monitors both the current and voltage of the individual strings as well as the status of switches and surge protection devices in the generator junction box. Per string, 25 to 50 A can be measured.
The system is inserted into Weidmüller’s »combiner boxes« for PV plants with central inverters and is supplied by the plant current. DC/DC converters and communication hardware are already integrated in the combiner box. The PV String Monitoring System transmits data either via cable (RS-485) or wirelessly via a low-power long-distance signal (Long Range Wide Area Network, LoRaWAN). For this purpose, a corresponding »plug and play« module is used.
