Latest »Innovation auction« in Germany oversubscribed twice

The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has announced the awards of the so-called innovation auction for the bidding date of September 1, 2023. These tenders are for solar and wind power projects with secured generation – i.e. with storage. However, once again no bids were received for combined plants with wind power.
With a tendered volume of 400 megawatts (MW), 53 bids were submitted in the current round for PV and storage plant combinations with a bid volume of 779 MW. In the last tender on May 1, only three bids with 84 MW were submitted for the same tender volume.
As a result, 32 bids with a total of 408 MW were awarded this time. The bid values of the awarded submissions range from 7.76 euro cents per kilowatt hour to 8.78 euro cents. The average volume-weighted award value in this round was 8.33 euro cents (8.77 ¢). This means that both the volume-weighted average value and the respective maximum value are about 1.8 euro cents higher than those for the July 1 tender for conventional ground-mounted PV systems. The next innovation tender will take place on May 1, 2024.
