ISE achieved 31.3 percent efficiency with silicon-based multi-junction solar cell

Researchers at the German Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE have manufactured a silicon-based multi-junction solar cell with two contacts and a conversion efficiency of 31.3 percent. According to the institute, with a simple front and rear contact, the record solar cell can be integrated into photovoltaic modules in the same manner.
In November 2016, Fraunhofer ISE reached a record efficiency for a triple-junction solar cell made of III-V and silicon material with an efficiency of 30.2 percent.
