Imec and PVcase announce next-generation software for bifacial systems

The photovoltaic department of the Belgian research alliance Imec (Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre), and PVcase, a Lithuanian company specialising in software for the planning of solar power plants, have announced a cooperation for the development of innovative software at the European PV Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition EU PVSEC in Marseille (France), which started yesterday. According to an Imec press release, the work is already well advanced and »the go to market is targeted for the first half of 2020«.
The new tool is described to be superior to previous programs, especially in terms of planning and yield forecasts for systems with bifacial modules and tracking systems. »First blind tests of the prototype software already show best-in-class results for bifacial PV plants«, says Imec.
Imec has developed the core of the program, which uses a combination of physical data and algorithms for simulations, taking into account a wide range of parameters from cell technology to shading obstacles and wind conditions at the plant location. PVcase has taken over the embedding in a user-friendly, web-based environment. According to the two partners, there are already connections to other partners, potential investors and implementation customers.
